Carnival Cruise Line is known for its energetic atmosphere and epic parties. Occasionally, passengers may interpret the chill vibes as an opportunity to do whatever they want, even if it is not allowed.
This was the case recently on the 110,000 gross ton Carnival Valor when a guest staying on Deck 7 decided to smoke marijuana, causing the smell to permeate into the surrounding cabins.
One of the cruisers also staying on this deck just so happened to be TikToker Jenn (@cruisinwithjenn), who posted about the experience to her 97.2K followers on April 15, 2025.
In recounting what happened, Jenn started the video by sharing that while she was on the ship, security showed up at her room.
To preface that part of the story, she added that from the start of the cruise, she had noticed a strong smell of weed coming from a nearby cabin, and it kept happening.
“It was very prevalent,” she said, adding that “it was coming through the vents in our room on Deck 7.”
On the second-to-last evening of the cruise, letters were put on the doors of the passengers staying on Deck 7 to inform them that the crew had been made aware of a guest violating the rules.
@cruisinwithjenn I love carnival. But this- this was very frustrating. Will I be back? Of course! But I’m still not getting blamed for others people’s behavior. #carnivalcruise #carnival #carnivalcruiseline #carnivalvalor #cruise #cruisetok #cruiselife
The letter essentially said that there had been a report of the smell of marijuana in the vicinity of all of these rooms, and that this goes against the cruise line’s policy and procedure.
It also stated that if found, the person(s) at fault would be fined $500, something no one wants to be stuck with.
In an effort not to be fined, Jenn went to guest services and made sure they knew it was not her room. After doing so, she returned to Deck 7 when she noticed the smell was so strong she could locate which cabin it was coming from.

She then called guest services to inform them of the smell coming from a neighboring room and decided to head to the buffet for some cookies.
Again, she was returning to Deck 7 when Jenn noticed security outside of her cabin, instead of the one she had reported the strong smell coming from. The TikToker happily let them in as she had nothing to hide, and to no surprise, nothing was found.
Security then exited the cabin and walked down the hallway directly into the smoke coming from another cabin. Instead of stopping, they just walked right past it and ignored it — something that shocked Jenn.
A follow-up letter was provided to the surrounding rooms, stating that there was an inverstigation, but no culprit was found.

While this situation may not have been resolved, the cruise line is attempting to increase its strictness when it comes to enforcing its rules to keep passengers safe.
Carnival’s policy clearly outlines the following: “Smoking in undesignated areas, including staterooms and balconies, and discharging any item overboard is prohibited and will result in a $500 charge per violation. This applies to all forms of smoking, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vaporizers, electronic cigarettes, and marijuana.”
Additionally, Carnival is also making sure to send all booked guests information ahead of their cruises about the guidelines and policies in place to prevent these kinds of circumstances from happening.
At the end of the day, this influencer was simply frustrated that the crew did not investigate the cabin that was clearly at fault.
Also, if the fellow guest was going to break the rules, they should consider doing it in a way that did not blow unpleasant-smelling smoke directly into other passengers’ rooms.
Risking Rule Breaking Could Get You Banned
While the passenger who was smoking a prohibited substance on Carnival Valor was not caught, other cruisers have not been as lucky when blatantly breaking the rules.
In October 2024, it was revealed that two individuals had been banned from Carnival Cruise Line after smuggling a handgun onto Carnival Liberty.
Weapons are on the same list as marijuana, which Carnival has detailed on its website as prohibited items aboard all ships in its fleet.
Other cruise lines have similar policies, Royal Caribbean’s being highlighted recently after a former cruiser shared they got removed and arrested after weed was found in their cabin.
More than just potentially getting banned or even arrested, cruisers need to keep in mind that their actions could affect fellow passengers.
To make a long story short, it simply is not worth it — Mary Jane should stay home so you can enjoy your vacation without disruption.
